Fast, Accurate Imaging, When You Need It Most
Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA)
Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA) provides highly detailed pictures of blood vessels using a strong magnetic field and radio frequency pulses. MRA does not use ionizing radiation and does not involve x-ray exposure. Detailed MRA images allow physicians to better evaluate various parts of the body and determine the presence of certain diseases that may not be assessed adequately with other imaging methods such as x-ray, ultrasound or computed tomography (CT scanning). It is also an alternative technique to catheter-based angiography which is more invasive and also uses ionizing radiation.
Very little preparation is required. You may eat, drink, and take your medications before your MRI.
You will be asked to complete a questionnaire before your exam because of the potential harmful effects associated with some metallic objects and some patients may not be able to have an MRI done.
The following equipment or conditions may affect the MRI:
-
Pacemaker or pacing wires
-
Metal fragments in one or both eyes
-
Inner ear implants
-
Cerebral aneurysm clips
-
Implanted neurostimulator
-
Tens unit
-
Certain metal implants
-
Shrapnel or bullet wounds
-
Permanent Makeup
Tell your doctor if you are, or suspect you may be pregnant.
To ensure the safety during your exam you will be asked to change into an MRI safe gown and remove all metallic items from your body, such as your watch, jewelry, hairpins, glasses, and hearing aids. A locker is provided for your valuables to secure all of your personal belongings.-

A printed report with graphics and data will be given to you following your scan. OGH Imaging DOES NOT interpret the data. You should follow up with your personal trainer/physician/coach or nutritionist.
MR Angiography is commonly performed to evaluate for blood vessel disorder problems such as aneurysms (balloon like bulging), stenosis (narrowing), dissection (wall splitting), malformations or fistula (abnormal vascular connections). These conditions can occur in the brain, neck, spine, chest, abdomen (such as liver and kidneys), and legs.
